Nava Narsimha temples are situated in the enchanting village called Ahobilam, a holy site in the Allagadda mandal of Nandayal district in Andhra Pradesh. It is the place where lord narishma came in 9 forms to kill the asura Hiranyakashipu and save Prhalada.
Ahobilam has nine Narsimha temples and a Shiva temple. Ahobilam. These nine shrines, each representing a unique form of Lord Narasimha, are spread between Lower Ahobilam, Upper Ahobilam, and nearby forest areas. I’m going to tell you how you can plan to visit all the Narsimha temples.
Step 1 :
Although the general darshan is free, you can make a reservation via the Ahobilam Devasthanam website or at the temple counters upon arrival if you would like to perform a special pooja or avoid the long lines.
You can reach Ahobilam via:
- By Train – Nearest major railway stations: Nandyal (68 km) or Cuddapah (118 km). Book train tickets on IRCTC.
- By Bus – APSRTC buses run from major cities like Hyderabad, Tirupati, and Vijayawada to Allagadda or Nandyal. Book on the APSRTC online portal.
- By Car/Taxi – You can book cabs via online platforms or local taxi operators from nearby towns.

Reservations for lodging can be made online or at the temple guest houses. If you want a laid-back pilgrimage musical worship, it’s best to stay one night. Visiting all nine temples in Ahobilam requires careful planning and a well-thought-out route map. The temples are spread across the hills, and some of them require trekking to reach. It is advisable to start the journey early in the morning to make the most of the day and avoid the scorching heat.

Step 2:
Starting with lower ahobilam
Transportation Advice: It’s easy to reserve a car or jeep locally to get to these four temples. Walking between some temples is also possible.
Some trekking may be necessary to reach the lower Ahobilam temples, so comfortable shoes and plenty of water are essential. There are guides on hand to help guests, and the trekking routes are marked. Varada Narasimha Temple, Bhargava Narasimha Temple, and Yogananda Narasimha Temple are among the temples in lower Ahobilam.
Although the Karanja Narasimha Swamy temple is technically on the route to Upper Ahobilam, many travel guides include it with the Lower Ahobilam temples because it is so close and easily accessible by road.

Now that four temples have been covered, here’s how to strategically cover the remaining five.
Proceed to Ahobila Narasimha Swamy temple, the principal shrine where the Lord appeared to Prahlada, after finishing the Lower Ahobilam temples. Next, see Kroda (Varaha) Narasimha Swamy, which represents the boar-faced figure. Proceed to Jwala Narasimha Swamy, who symbolises the ferocious Ugra form that annihilated Hiranyakashipu. Visit Malola Narasimha Swamy, the placid form of Goddess Lakshmi, on your way back. This sequence blends beautiful hiking through the forested hills of Upper Ahobilam with spiritual depth.
Lastly, we have deep in the forest, about 7 km from Lower Ahobilam, is Pavana Narasimha Swamy. Trekking or a shared jeep can get you there. For purification blessings, it is typically visited last.
Suitable Time to visit Ahobilam
The winter months of October through February are the best times to visit Ahobilam because of the pleasant weather that is perfect for outdoor activities. Trekking and temple exploration are made comfortable by the moderate temperatures. The region receives a lot of rainfall during the monsoon season, which runs from June to September. Because of the slick paths, trekking can become hazardous and challenging.
